Psalms in the Heart

Paul Pierucki · August 23, 2026 · 11:00 AM service

Pastor Pierucki continues his book by book teaching with an overview of Psalms, noting the blessed man of chapter 1, the emphasis on God's word in chapter 119, the repentance psalms, and the Messianic psalms that point to Christ, including the promise of David's eternal throne in Psalms 89 as proof of eternal security. He then focuses on the heart, which is mentioned 121 times in Psalms, contrasting the hard, bitter, and proud heart with the clean, fixed, and tender heart God wants to give. He shares stories from his years in Romania, including learning to pray Psalms 51:10 while driving, and closes by explaining that a man must believe in his heart, not just his head, that Christ died for his sins and rose again.

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. …”
